In my blog: How to recognize and resist Satan? we had the picture of the “jug of blessing”. This jug contains all the blessing God has for you, he says he has a fulfilled life for you. We found out what was plugging up the jug and removed it.
Today we are coming back to the jug of blessings. There are many things in this jug. You reach out your hand to grab something but…Ohoh…your hand is stuck! It is too full!
This is how mokneys are caught in Africa. They hold on to the content of the jug and are caught. How dumb.. it would just have to open it’s hand and let go of the candy. Or at least almost all of it. With only one piece of candy in it’s hand it could pull it’s hand out of the jug.
The same thing can happen to you with Gods blessing.
Too much isn’t good for us and turns into a curse. Here are three steps that will turn your blessing into a real blessing.
- Step: Generosity
Money and possessions have a deceptive habit: If I attach my heart to it, it will never be enough. You have a new phone. You’re happy. For how long?
A month? Two? A year?
Let’s be honest: It usually doesn’t take very long and we wish we had a better phone, a new piece of clothing, a bigger apartement, a better partner.
That is part of the cycle of worry. The old phone has to go. The clothes wander into the garbage. Your marriage goes to see the divorce judge.
When is it enough?
1.Timothy 6, 8: « But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. »
If my stomach is full and I have a roof above my head I have enough, materially speaking.
Everything else is luxury. Of course we may enjoy it and buy a new phone but it must not take over your thoughts. And above all it must never make us unhappy when we can’t have something.
What can I do against the feeling of always wanting more or something better?
Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness.
By concentrating all of our efforts onto something else: On our faith in God and living in the cycle of his blessings and passing them on.
The bible has developed a good concept for it:
Malachi 3, 10 : « Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it. »
Here you can find the blessing that God promises (“test me!”) when we give a tenth of what we have. Everything that we give in this awareness, we give to God! Awesome!
Here is how you can practice that;
Together with God, go over your posessions and finances. What can you go without? Note it down and cross it out of your life. Give away things. Set dates in your weekly or yearly agenda on which you give away things or donate money. Then make a standing order to donate money to an organisation or to a person in need. You can also give it to your church. There it can be used to further build up Gods kingdom on earth.
Isn’t that a genius order that God gave us?
You will notice how your life will gain in strength and blessing.
How do I kepp the blessing cycle running until the end of this earthly life? In deed, there is always something better. And as we all know the best thing usually comes at the end.
We don’t even have to be afraid of death because we have an eternal life with God, thanks to Jesus. It’s going to be wonderful. But you will learn more about that during your cycle of blessing.
What is necessary for a constant growth in faith?
- Step: Church
A little while ago I went to a wedding. The bride had an intergalactic bouquet of blue roses. What kind of rose is that? I didn’t know them and so I asked the bride. She laughed and said:”They’re just normal white roses that I put into blue water last night!”
WOW. What an image.
The people you are with are like water. Their influence rubs off on you. You can’t do anything against it. Especially if you spend a lot of intensive time with them. Your circle of friends colors you.
That’s why God invented the church. Church means a group of commited people that meets regularly to grow in their faith. They make up the water that colors you.
Can you grow in your faith without a church?
You could just aswell ask a hand if it can grow without the body.
No! Because that’s how God organized it.
1. Corinthians 12, 12 : « Christ is like a single body, which has many parts; it is still one body, even though it is made up of different parts. »
You need the church to make up for the things that you can’t do alone. Prayer, encouragement, consolation, warning and inspiration.
You need church to add power to your prayer.
Matthew 18, 19 : « And I tell you more: whenever two of you on earth agree about anything you pray for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven. 20 For where two or three come together in my name, I am there with them. »
And you need a church to have a real home
2. Corinthians 6, 16 : « How can God’s temple come to terms with pagan idols? For we are the temple of the living God! As God himself has said, I will make my home with my people and live amongst them; I will be their God, and they shall be my people. »
The church is a training space. Here, where everyone wants to live in the cycle of blessing and according to Gods order, your cycle will stay in touch.
I love my GIVICI church! I go there once a week and my spiritual brothers and sisters are those who pray for me and are there for me. This church challenges me every week to stay in my cycle of blessings.
Without my church – and I tried it – my cycle of blessings is like a car that is running out of fuel.
Become part of a church and commit yourself to it. That’s the best thing that can happen to you.
And finally the last step that will allow you continue growing in your faith throughout your earthly life:
- Step: Patience
Hebrews 10, 36 : « You need to be patient, in order to do the will of God and receive what he promises. »
Okay, I don’t think I have to add much to that.
Patience brings blessing. Patience meens being patient. Not giving up. When something doesn’t go as planned. Continue trusting in God, asking him for advice, trying over. Sometimes it means fighting. Sometimes making mistakes. Getting honest feedback. Learning. Trying over again. Celebrating victories.
The apostel Paul says it like this:
Philippians 3, 12 : « I do not claim that I have already succeeded or have already become perfect. I keep striving to win the prize for which Christ Jesus has already won me to himself. 13 Of course, my friends, I really do not[a] think that I have already won it; the one thing I do, however, is to forget what is behind me and do my best to reach what is ahead. »
Your life with God is like a tree that undergoes all the seasons and grows bigger and stronger. It blossoms every year. Sometimes less, sometimes more. Until we rise up to heaven.
At the end the bible describes the highlight:
Revelation 21, 1-5 : « Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth. The first heaven and the first earth disappeared, and the sea vanished. 2 And I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared and ready, like a bride dressed to meet her husband. 3 I heard a loud voice speaking from the throne: “Now God’s home is with people! He will live with them, and they shall be his people. God himself will be with them, and he will be their God. 4 He will wipe away all tears from their eyes. There will be no more death, no more grief or crying or pain. The old things have disappeared.”5 Then the one who sits on the throne said, “And now I make all things new! »
There we will celebrate together. I’m looking forward to seeing you there!
